From the centre of Vrhnika the circular path leads
you to Močilnik. The legend says the
Greek heroes - Jason and the Argonauts sailed up the Ljubljanica to Močilnik Springs. Here
the river stopped so the Argonauts had to dismantle their ship Argo and carry it on
their shoulders to the Adriatic Sea. Vrhnika remembers this legend every year during the
well-known festival Argonaut Days. Walk from
Močilnik to the impressive springs in Retovje and then head back to Vrhnika.
Bistra Springs are another fantastic
destination. The springs are found halfway between Vrhnika and Borovnica. About
400 m from the springs three groups of springs join together to form the Bistra
River. The position of these streams played a protective role for the Bistra monastery. The source water
comes from the Cerknica Karst Field, Rakov Škocjan Park and the Planina Karst
Field. The amount of the water flowing from these springs is so abundant that in the past it powered the machines
at the monastery and the Bistra Castle. The flow of
the water was controlled by sluice gates close to the mills and sawmills in Verd and Bistra.
