White Chrysanthemum - the symbol of Cankar's Year
The essay White
Chrysanthemum is one of Cankar's most renowned work, a polemical response to the critics of his writing.
As a symbol white chrysanthemum, in many European countries, stands for transience, death, mourning for the dead, and remorse. Its significance in the Far East is completely different. The flower of the chrysanthemum is in the coat of arms of the Japanese Emperors; it symbolizes power and supremacy. It also stands for spirituality and immortality of the soul.
